Funded as part of an ASHRAE-funded research project (1154-RP), this report investigates the potential for using load-shifting in the operation of freezers under real-time pricing rate scenarios. An economic analysis is performed for three different utility rate structures and the results indicate that demand-shifting operating strategy can lead to savings when the cost of electricity during high price periods is more than 2.2 times the average cost of electricity over a day period.
